The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel arrives on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that drive fan obsession.
The community's expectations for the new season vary widely, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands specifically in mind," the creator stated recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 moves, and how much of what they're waiting for unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible reveals, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear much more singing from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
